About the Event

Hike the highest mountain in Souther Britan, Pen-Y-Fan and the famous four waterfalls trail on this weekend trip that will help you forget all your worries.

The height of Pen y Fan may not rival the tallest UK summits, but you can’t take anything away from its dramatic views. Standing at 886m above sea level with a topographic prominence of 672m, Pen y Fan boasts the tallest peak in the Brecon Beacons, tipping its neighbouring mountains to this impressive landmark. It stands opposite Cribyn (795m) and is next to Corn Du (873m). Tackle all three in one for an impressive walk.

There is nowhere in Wales with as many spectacular waterfalls in such a small area as the part of South Wales known as Waterfall Country.

Here, the rivers Mellte, Hepste and Neddfecham have worn away the soft rocks to create steep wooded gorges full of caves and waterfalls.

This is an enjoyable short trip to clear your head and see new things in nature with a little bit of a challenge chucked in for fun.

Yestradefell is a trail along a forest and gorges with 4 incredible waterfalls along the way. One short part of the walk will force us to walk behind a waterfall for a breathtaking experience. Although you will only get sprayed with water, do bring your waterproofs :-)

We have rented an entire hostel with our own kitchen, so we can eat, drink and stay up as much as we want :-)

ITINERARY

FRIDAY

7 pm - Depart from Hammersmith and drive straight to our accommodation.

We will make one or two service station stops for dinner, pee and poo.

SATURDAY

PEN-Y-FAN ROUTE DETAILS

Length - 16.70 km

Distance - 6 hours

Ascent - 852 metres

Difficulty - Ardous - Difficult

After our breakfast, we will hike Pen y Fan going via the most picturesque route.

This quiet ascent of Pen y Fan begins at the enchanting Taf Fechan Forest, rising beyond Upper Neuadd Reservoir to meet the summit from the south. It’s a long day, but a highly rewarding one.

For anyone who doesn’t fancy to entire 10.5-mile hike, you can stop at the reservoir and appreciate the peak from the valley. A string of trees runs alongside Neuadd, offering shade in the warmer months and shelter in the cold.

SUNDAY

Following a restful night, we hike the waterfalls trail, which is much easier but still has some steep hills.
