About the Event
We drive in our party minibus to the Peak District where we will be playing around The Devil's Arse, which lies not too far from Andrew's Knob and Penis Stone (it is spelt Penistone, but we prefer our take on it) set between the Nether End and Cheese Bottom, on a trip that will leave you gagging for more.
This trip includes a visit
What you will see and do this weekend hiking adventure:
Climb to the top of Mam Tor
Mam Tor is a 517 m (1,696 ft) hill. Its name means "mother hill", so called because frequent landslips on its eastern face have resulted in a multitude of "mini-hills" beneath it. These landslips, which are caused by unstable lower layers of shale, also give the hill its alternative name of Shivering Mountain.
Get your Insta photos at Winnats Pass
Winnats Pass, located to the west of Castleton, is an impressive limestone gorge in the White Peak area of the Peak District. Its name is short for ‘wind gates’ due to the constant swirling wind through the gorge.
We will take our time allowing you 15 minutes so you can take tons of pictures as you please.
Conquer the Castle
Peveril Castle is a ruined 11th-century castle overlooking the village of Castleton. The castle has stunning views across the Hope Valley and Cave Dale.
Explore hidden valley
Cavedale is a picturesque dry limestone valley. The valley sides are almost perpendicular and over 50 metres in height. The dale rises gently after leaving Castleton for approximately 200 metres before becoming steeper culminating in a fine viewpoint down the dale taking in Peveril Castle with Lose Hill behind. After the viewpoint the dale swings west and levels out with gentle gradients, becoming just a shallow depression as it peters out onto the open pastureland between Castleton and Chapel-en-le-Frith.
Lead the Great Ridge
Great Ridge is a ridge separating the vales of Edale and Castleton. It extends for approximately 3 kilometres (1.9 mi) from Mam Tor at the western end of the ridge to Lose Hill at the eastern end, the lowest point being Hollins Cross.
Explore the Village
Castleton attracts large numbers of tourists, and there are many pubs (some with accommodation), tea shops and guest houses to supply their needs. There is also a large car park, an information centre which houses Castleton Museum, several outdoors shops and a youth hostel.
Enter The Devil's Arse
The Peak Cavern, also known as the Devil's Arse, is one of the four show caves in Castleton, Peak District. Peakshole Water flows through and out of the cave, which has the largest cave entrance in Britain.
Climb the epic Kinder Scout
Kinder Scout is a moorland plateau and national nature reserve in the Dark Peak of the Derbyshire Peak District in England. Part of the moor, at 636 metres above sea level, is the highest point in the Peak District, the highest point in Derbyshire, and the highest point in the East Midlands.
